Controlled-Expansion and Glass-Sealing Alloys IconALLOY 36, 42, 48 - Controlled-Expansion and Glass-Sealing Alloys

Alloy Description

ALLOY 36, 42, 48 are nickel-iron controlled expansion alloys with high magnetic permeability.

ALLOY 36, 42, 48 - Controlled-Expansion and Glass-Sealing Alloys

Alloy 36 has near zero coefficient of thermal expansion at room temperature and till 100°C. It is used in instrumentation and in thermostats. It is also used as bimetallic strip in cryogenic engineering and laser components.

Alloy 42 has low expansion till 300°C and it matches the expansion of soft glass. Used in lead-in-wires for electronic applications and for the core of Dumet wire (glass sealing part in lead-in-wires for electric lamps). It is used in glass sealing applications in microelectronic components and vacuum devices.

Alloy 48 has expansion that matches soda-lead and soda-lime glass. Used as leads for electronic applications. It is also used in thermostats for industrial applications upto 450°C.
